The News, Eats & Events Shaping Western New York |
Nick Gunner, a Western New York entrepreneur, is changing the way locals cook at home with Recipe Route, an inventive meal planning app.
This service suggests personalized recipes based on seasonal ingredients sourced directly from nearby farms.
Users simply choose their favorite cuisine, and Recipe Route generates dishes using what’s locally available.
Groceries can be added to a digital cart and delivered to users' doors, making fresh, local cooking easy.
The app is designed for convenience—providing options for dietary needs, budgets, and different group sizes, while also preventing waste by optimizing shopping lists.
By streamlining how meals are planned and ingredients sourced, Gunner supports local agriculture and brings farm-fresh food directly to the table.
His expertise from Cornell Agritech’s Cyber Agricultural Intelligence and Robotics Lab, with NASA Acres backing, ensures a high-tech, community-focused approach. Read More... |
D’Youville University is preparing to launch its first-ever College of Osteopathic Medicine this fall, becoming a landmark addition for both the institution and Western New York.
All 90 seats in the inaugural class have already been filled, reflecting high demand and strong academic credentials among applicants.
Nearly half of these students are from New York State, highlighting a commitment to local healthcare needs.
The new medical school will eventually occupy a modern, 125,000-square-foot facility at 285 Delaware Avenue in downtown Buffalo, set to open in fall 2027.
Until then, first-year classes will be held on D’Youville’s main campus, with a curriculum focused on whole-person and primary care specialties aimed at addressing physician shortages in underserved areas.
Almost 50 clinical partnerships across the region will provide students vital real-world training.
Prospective students can explore future opportunities through the university’s admission channels. Read More... |
State Senator Jeremy Cooney is pushing new legislation to make New York State liable for pothole-related vehicle damage all year, not just between May and mid-November.
Currently, drivers can only claim compensation for damage on state roads within that limited window.
Cooney’s bill would remove the seasonal restriction, offering motorists the chance to file claims anytime a pothole causes harm.
He argues it’s unjust for residents to lose out on reimbursement based solely on the month.
The proposed legislation would also require the New York State Department of Transportation to launch an online portal for reporting potholes, aiming to speed up repairs.
In Buffalo, where winters often lead to battered roads and expensive fixes, local support is growing for these changes.
The plan promises stronger driver protection and improved road maintenance statewide. Read More... |
